Teton Pass 4/19/11

Mid-April, and the snow is still DEEP in Jackson Hole. The Mountain Pulse team took an afternoon backcountry lap on Teton Pass to partake in the powder. The riding surpassed expectations leaving us wanting more. This snow pack will be hanging around for a while!

The Mountain Pulse team put on their snowshoes, rigged up their fly rods & took to the Snake River for some spring fishing. Prior to the spring run-off, fishing has proven successful on the Snake.

This is a time-lapse compilation by Jackson Hole wildlife photographer Mike Cavaroc. It was shot exclusively in Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge outside of Jackson, Wyoming. At 0:54 is footage of Miller Butte in the National Elk Refuge. It’s the only clip that isn’t in Grand Teton National Park. The final clip, starting at 1:35, is of Earth’s shadow rising above Antelope Flats in Grand Teton National Park. Steam from Kelly Warm Springs is visible in the lower-right corner.

We caught up with pioneer snowboard mountaineer Stephen Koch on Teton Pass to discuss some tips on avalanche awareness. We got in a few turns as well.
