1/06/12 – On their way into the Jackson Hole backcountry, Charlie Senn along with Sam Allan get the green light from the avalanche beacon checkpoint. Several of these checkpoints have been installed at various access points to the backcountry thanks to the combined efforts of Outerlocal, Backcountry Access and Outdoor Research.

Episode 4 - The Human Factor

Possibly the most unpredictable factor in an avalanche situation is the skiers involved. Heeding the warning sings instead of feeding your ego and trusting that your ski partners are knowledgable in avalanche rescue are major contributions to safe backcountry skiing.

Avalanche Awareness Night

The raffle prizes were piled high for the Avalanche Awareness Night at Snow King Resort. A crowd turned out for the annual event held by Skinny Skis in benefit of the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center which featured speakers and companies focused on snow safety.

Not a Ticket to Ride

Barring the occasional job interview, no one in Jackson Hole really cares where you went to school. Come wintertime, avalanche education is the preeminent study in this valley. The classroom, though unforgiving, trumps any campus in the world. Unlike that liberal arts degree you may have eked out at some debt-incurring college all those years ago, avalanche awareness has the realest world application: It can save your life.
