The Horsethief Forest Fire in Jackson WY began on Saturday, September 8th 2012 approximately five miles south of town. The fire quickly grew and spread into Bridger-Teton National Forest near Snow King Resort. Federal, state and local agencies are working tirelessly to contain the fire and protect structures in the Town of Jackson from damage.

This video incorporates video, photos, and a Google Earth fly-by to help present details about the forest fire.

Forest Fire Details

  • As of Monday (9/10) evening, the fire is 10% contained
  • Horsethief Fire has grown to encompass 2700 acres
  • US Forest Service has spent over $1 million fighting the fire
  • Crews are slowly working up the west flank of the fire near Snow King Resort to hold the perimeter and move north.
