Thanks to Unofficial Jackson for bringing this classic footage to our attention. This segment pulled from Dick Barrymore’s 1967 documentary ‘Last of the Ski Bums’ takes us back to Jackson Hole a year after the first Aerial Tram opened. The film follows three ski bums travelling across North America and Europe, and these guys hit Jackson at the right time. They meet up with Smith Optics founder Bob Smith, who is testing his new goggles while storm skiing, and it looks like they are holding up alright. JH legend and Olympic skier Pepi Stiegler makes an epic cameo and gives a glimpse of how he was crushing the slopes back in his heyday. Catching huge air off classic Jackson booters and stomping powder landings even in his leather boots and skinny skis. I love the closing shot with the anonymous skier riding waist deep powder into the setting sun. If that doesn’t sell Jackson Hole and the last of the old west, I dont know what will.

Last of the Ski Bums synopsis from IMDB: A film about three ski-bums (Run Funk, Mike Zuetell and Ed Ricks) that are followed by another ski bum (Dick Barrymore),with a 16mm Bolex camera, who filmed a four-month part of their nomadic and vanishing-breed way of life across four continents. These are four people doing every day what others work fifty weeks of the year to buy for two weeks. They were also becoming a vanishing breed who were becoming unwelcome from Aspen to Val d’Isere.
