Winter weather has arrived in Jackson Hole and we’re all looking for technical outerwear to keep us warm and dry in the mountains. For this gear review from The Mountian Pulse, we feature the Hyper jacket made by Marmot. Marmot is an outerwear company that provides reliable, quality products backed by an incredible warranty.

Recently, I utilized their warranty program with an old synthetic coat that had seen some serious use over the years. After filling out the necessary forms online, I mailed the coat to their factory and was on the phone with a representative in a matter of days. Long story short, I was assured they would fix the zipper problems with the old coat at no cost. Even better, they gave me the green light to pick another coat in their fleet at a generous 50% discount. No complaints here!

Taking advantage of the discount, I picked out a new shell for my arsenal of outerwear. After a couple trips into the field, I have the following review of the Hyper jacket from Marmot.

Marmot Hyper Jacket

The Hyper jacket features Marmot’s MemBrain® Strata™ technology, for lightweight, breathable, waterproof performance. I’m impressed with the water resistant zippers and full shell hood. These features will come in handy on wet or windy days. A light weight shell, it doesn’t take up much space in the backpack either, which I appreciate. Retailing for around $200, it packs the technical features mountain athletes demand at a price that is affordable.

  • Marmot MemBrain® 2.5 Waterproof/Breathable Fabric
  • Micro-Stitched and 100% Seam Taped – for maximum waterproof protection
  • Hand Pockets with Concealed Zippers
  • Asymmetric Cuffs with Velcro Adjustment
  • Reflective Logos
  • Elastic Draw Cord Hem – For Adjustability in Serious Weather
  • Angel-Wing Movement™ – Allows Full Range of Motion in Arms so Jacket Doesn’t Ride Up

Plus Side: An affordable shell. The Hyper is light enough to easily pack with you wherever you go. Provides protection from wind, rain & light snow. Built strong, with enough strecth to satisfy the most flexible atheletes & weekend worriors. Backed by Marmot’s outstanding warranty program.

Down Turn: Definitely a lighter shell. Wouldn’t recommend it on it’s own on colder days. But would work well as a layer under a heavier, down jacket.
