Snake River

The Snake is finally dropping to fishable levels, 2800 cfs out of Jackson Lake Dam and 5180 cfs at Moose. There is clear water from the Dam to a few miles below the confluence with the Buffalo Fork, where clarity drops to 2 feet.

The Snake River continues to improve daily as flows drop and clarity gets even better. Fishing has picked up on all sections of the river from Jackson Lake Dam down to Alpine. Game on!

Our smaller to medium size cutthroat are looking to the surface for snacks and the catch rate has been very good. Golden Stones, Caddis, Yellow Sally, PMD’s, and Gray Drake patterns are all producing currently. Our guides have been using nymph droppers off of some of the larger bugs to entice more fish to eat. Look to the slower edges of runs, riffles, and side channels to fish dry flies.

Larger trout to 18″ have been caught on more streamer and nymph rigs than dry flies over the past few days. Water temperatures are a little cool until about 10am, so going sub-surface is a great idea if you’re on the water before then. Some of these fish are in heavier bank water than you may expect at these flows…
