Azure skies cut through the conifers, scattering a patchwork of shadows on the boot-pack up to the Crags from Apres Vous. Ascending, I overtook a Christmas-week-warrior keeled over his poles, sucking air through pursed lips. “It’s all worth it in the end, right?” he managed to ask between breaths. Nodding to the scene around us, I responded, “It’s already worth it.”
